This is a brief history of technological advances that have changed the
way news is shared:
1493: Gutenberg's Printing Press: Printing existed centuries before in Asia, but Gutenberg's machine coincided with the
Renaissance, the proliferation of knowledge, and later evolved to be used in
double-sided print for newspapers.
1665: Issue one of
The Oxford Gazette is considered by many to be the first modern news paper.
1776: Thomas Paine writes "Common Sense", a great example of news distribution via pamphlets.
1844: Samuel Morse sent the first telegraphic message from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore.
Information is able to travel great distances at great speed.

1889: America’s most widely circulated
newspaper, The Wall Street Journal, is
founded.
1963: CBS Evening News airs its first broadcast ushering in the age of the nightly news broadcast.
1966: Xerox
commercializes the first fax machine allowing news articles to be quickly transmitted.
1970: National
Public Radio (NPR) is established. Its focus grows to encompass in-depth news.
1970: Entertainment and Sports Network
(ESPN) debuts with SportsCenter,
beginning the 24-hour sports news cycle.
1980: Cable News
Network (CNN) is
launched beginning the 24-hour news cycle.
1994: The Internet becomes, “really big, now”,
providing people with instant access to news and information. This has had the most profound effect on how news is made and shared throughout the world. People now have access to news and information faster than ever before.
1996: Fox News Channel is launched. It is now
the dominate cable news channel in America. Its tage line is, Fair & Balanced.
2004: TheFacebook is launched. The website changes its
name to Facebook and provides hundreds of millions of users around the world the ability to
share news and opinions.
2005: The Huffington Post is launched. It is now the most visited blog on the web.
2006: Twitter is launched providing hundreds of millions of users around the world a platform to share news and opinions.
2012: Newsandict.blogspot.com is launched
and provides amazing insights into ICTs effects on the way news is formed and consumed.
Tell me you're joking. Is Fox News Channel really the dominant cable news channel in America???! Oh no... do people not realize that FOX news is NOT news?!
