If you are wondering, "It" refers to what may be the most important blog ever written, or at least, the most important blog ever written by me. My blog analyzes how Information and communication technology (ICT) effects the way in which news is created and consumed by today's society.
This is why I chose to write on this topic:
Ever since I was a child I have had an interest in current affairs. When I was in middle school I asked my parents to get a subscription to Newsweek (largely for the political comics, but still...), and enjoyed watching "Meet the Press" on Sunday mornings. Not the typical type of fun enjoyed by 12 year olds, but I was a bit of a dork and I found it entertaining.
A decade later I figured out a way to get paid for my dorkiness by working in the United States Congress. The job required the constant consumption of international, national, and local news. However, the methods in which I could consume news, and what constituted news, had drastically changed.
For better or worse ICT is revolutionizing news, and by extension, society. So lets take a moment to recognize and/or appreciate the implications of these changes.
Editors note: It won't be as bland as it may sound. News can be fun, I promise.
